Apple Trying to Own Podcasting

A great podcast by Leo Notenboom on the Chris Pirillo show talks about how Apple has embraced RSS, the technology behind podcasting, but has "extended it" in a proprietary way by arbitrarily adding their own standards to an existing, already cross-compatible technology. In order to be listed in Apple's podcast directory in iTunes, you must modify your RSS feed to be compliant with Apple's special RSS format. It's almost as if Apple is trying to "own" podcasting. FYI, you don't need an iPod to listen to podcasts.
