The version numbers for Firefox continue to climb with version 10 released by Mozilla this week. Unfortunately, the notorious
memory leak issues don't seem to be getting any better. I've been using Firefox on Mac OS X (10.6.8) for a little over 2 hours this morning, and I have noticed horrible performance with simple operations such as switching tabs, clicking on check boxes in web pages taking several seconds to complete. As you can see from the screen capture above, it's consuming well over 1.12 GB RAM and 57.9% CPU utilization.
Did you at least try to disable some of your add-ons and see if they make a difference? You could be very surprised.
ReplyDeleteDear Anonymous, yes, I've tried disabling all of my add-ons. If Firefox can't appropriately manage memory usage with add-ons, there isn't much point to using it anymore. One of the reasons I'm still on Firefox is because of the add-ons. But, I see your point.
ReplyDeleteI've even tried disabling each add-on, one by one, to try to root out any offending add-ons, but even when disabling them, Firefox still consumes an inordinate amount of memory and suffers horrible performance issues. Based on what I've been able to determine, this is a Firefox problem, not an add-on problem.
Did you try Safe Mode? You would know if Firefox is actually slow or is it a problem with your installation. See Safe Mode
ReplyDeleteSiddhartha, thanks for the reply. Safe mode simply disables add-ons en-masse, which I've already tried.
ReplyDeleteI also tried completely deleting my entire Firefox user profile and built a new one from scratch, and it was still having serious issues.
